MEROL
MEROL, or Merel Baldé (born 1991 in Dordrecht), has become an integral part of the Dutch music scene. With her sharp eye and a hefty dose of self-mockery, she has been exposing the zeitgeist since her breakthrough single “Lekker Met De Meiden” (2018). Her Dutch-language electropop and tongue-in-cheek lyrics strike a sensitive chord both in the Netherlands and Flanders. In 2019, she broke through definitively with “Hou Je Bek En Bef Me,” which not only earned her packed shows at Paradiso but also the 3voor12/3FM Song of the Year Award.
Following her successful debut album Troostprijs (2022), which led to sold-out club tours across the Low Countries, Merol is back with her new album Naar De Haaien & Weer Terug (2024). On this album, she explores her self-image and tendency toward self-destruction. As unpredictable as life itself, Merol takes you on a journey from her rave basement to her attic room, blending club bangers, fun, fantasy, and vulnerability with tracks like “Niet Meer Met Mij” and “Merel met een E.”
Merol has previously set festivals like Lowlands and Rock Werchter on fire, shone on the main stages at Pukkelpop and Best Kept Secret, and will perform her biggest solo show yet at the Lotto Arena. In Naar De Haaien & Weer Terug, she combines playfulness with a raw, quirky energy that harkens back to her early DIY productions. The album is a mix of beats, humor, melancholy, and a dash of social commentary, further cementing Merol as a unique voice in Dutch-language pop music.
