SYNOPSIS
An intimate portrait of Anton Corbijn as he travels the world as a photographer, film maker and video artist. A unique and revelatory look at the drama and conflict inherent in the man himself: the sacrifice of his private life versus his meteoric career, his commercial success versus his desire for artistic recognition, and his audience’s admiration versus his personal loneliness.

Director Klaartje Quirijns

Klaartje Quirijns is director of documentaries, including The Brooklyn Connectionand The Dictator Hunter. In 2012 her two new films will premiere: Peace vs. Justice and Anton Corbijn Inside Out. Klaartje Quirijns was raised in the Netherlands. After studying law, she worked as a director with the Dutch public broadcasting organisations NPS and VPRO. There she tackled the subjects of, among others, life in a maximum security prison, the physician that had to make a life or death decision for one of ‘The Breda Four’ gang and war criminals from Afghanistan who live side by side with their victims in centres for asylum seekers in the Netherlands. For the programme Urbania she portrayed ordinary people with extraordinary stories in Amsterdam. Klaartje lived in New York for ten years, where she worked on documentaries and made a video installation for the Kunsthal. She currently lives in London.

Her film The Brooklyn Connection, in which an arms dealer recounts how he smuggled weapons from the US to Kosovo, was part of the prestigious American documentary series POV and it was subject of an edition of CBS’s current affairs programme 60 Minutes. For her film The Dictator Hunter she followed an American Human Rights Watch lawyer for three years during his hunt for Hissene Habre, the former dictator of Chad. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2007, was nominated for the European Film Awards and won several prizes.

Currently she is working on The New American Dream about the influence of psychotherapy on modern society. She is also working with Anne Carey (producer of The Savages and The American) on a feature film based on her documentary The Dictator Hunter. Her film Peace vs. Justice, concerning the friction between the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague and the people of North Uganda who are critical of the ‘Western path’ to justice, will make its premiere at the end of January 2012 at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
